The 60 participating Area Go Texan counties: Anderson, Angelina, Austin, Bastrop, Bee, Bell, Bosque, Brazos, Burleson, Calhoun, Cherokee, Colorado, DeWitt, Falls, Fayette, Freestone, Goliad, Gonzales, Gregg, Grimes, Hardin, Harrison, Henderson, Hill, Houston, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Karnes, Lavaca, Lee, Leon, Limestone, Live Oak, Madison, Matagorda, McLennan, Milam, Nacogdoches, Navarro, Newton, Nueces, Orange, Panola, Polk, Refugio, Robertson, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, San Patricio, Shelby, Trinity, Tyler, Victoria, Walker, Washington, Wharton, Williamson.
Number Awarded: 70 four-year, $15,000 college scholarships presented to outstanding eligible students representing the counties participating in the Show's Area Go Texan program. This includes an additional 10 awards to be given at large to students within the 60 counties represented in the Area GO Texan Scholarship Program.
Deadline: Applications to be received by the Show scholarship office no later than the date specified on the current year's applications.
Eligibility: The applicant must reside in the Area Go Texan county which he or she seeks to represent and and attend an accredited public high school (does not have to be within the specified Area Go Texan county); must graduate at the end of the spring semester immediately following scholarship award; must be a resident of the state of Texas and a citizen of the United States of America; must be ranked in the upper third of his/her graduating class; test scores must meet minimum of 1350 SAT or 19 on the ACT; and must enroll in a Texas college or university. There are no restrictions on major field of study.
Limit on Other Scholarships/Financial Aid : A recipient of any Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo scholarship may not receive $40,000 or more from financial aid or any other scholarships and remain eligible to receive the Show scholarship. Applicants must list all financial aid and scholarships for which they have applied and the status of those awards as part of the application. If selected as a finalist for a Show scholarship, the applicant will be notified and must verify all other financial aid and scholarships received. Other financial aid or scholarships received will be verified by submission of award letters from individual donors and financial aid offices of the college/university the recipient will attend. Funds will not be disbursed without such verification. Failure to disclose completely all financial aid or other scholarships shall be grounds for forfeiture of the award.
Selection: Evaluation is done by members of area Rotary Clubs and other civic and community organizations.
Awards Presented: Presented during the Show at the Area Go Texan Scholarship Banquet in February.
