Museum of Western Art summer workshop scholarships are selected through an application process. Application forms are given to all 11th and 12th - grade students in each participating school district who are Best of Show, Gold Medal or Special Merit winners. Completed applications accompanied by portfolios and/or slides of the applicants' artwork are then submitted to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Representatives of the Museum of Western Art screen the applications, review the artwork (portfolios/slides) and interview each applicant during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo each year. The number of participants selected each year is determined by the amount of funds available.
